Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Automated 30mm Ammunition Plant, Sets 50% Private-Sector Goal

Singh used the Nagpur launch to press a 50% private-sector target for defence production.

Overview

  • The Defence Minister opened Solar Industries’ fully automated medium-calibre facility in Nagpur to produce 30mm ammunition used by the Army and Navy.
  • He said India’s defence exports have risen to about Rs 25,000 crore from roughly Rs 1,000 crore a decade ago, with a target of Rs 50,000 crore by 2029–30.
  • Citing policy reforms and streamlined procedures, Singh argued the private sector now leads defence R&D and should account for at least half of total output.
  • He said modern conflict now spans energy, trade, tariffs, supply chains, technology and information, calling for stronger preparedness and a robust industrial base.
  • Singh pointed to operational use of the indigenous Nagastra drone during Operation Sindoor and highlighted ongoing Pinaka rocket exports, including a flagged-off tranche to Armenia.
