Overview

• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh authorised CDS General Anil Chauhan on June 24 to issue unified orders and instructions for the Army, Navy and Air Force.
• The first joint order established a single system for approval, promulgation and numbering of directives to cut duplicative procedures.
• The move replaces separate service-specific orders and sets the stage for Integrated Theatre Commands under a unified command structure.
• This initiative forms part of the Ministry of Defence’s 2025 reforms agenda, which also targets indigenous capability development and faster acquisitions.
• Under phased HQ Integrated Defence Staff reforms, operations, logistics and training will be aligned across upcoming theatre commands in Lucknow, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram.
