Rajasthan’s Jalore Inland Port Enters DPR Review, Paving Link to the Arabian Sea

Officials are examining an IIT Madras draft plan with route surveys underway.

Overview

  • The draft Detailed Project Report submitted by IIT Madras is under review by Rajasthan authorities as field teams inspect the proposed alignment.
  • A 28 October MoU between Rajasthan’s river basin authority and the Inland Waterways Authority of India anchors the effort, with a final DPR to follow state feedback from site visits.
  • The proposed 262 km corridor via the JawaiLuni–Rann system, notified as National Waterway-48, would connect Jalore to Kandla on the Gulf of Kutch.
  • Channel dredging is estimated at about Rs 10,000 crore with Centre–state cost sharing, and Rajasthan expects to provide roughly 14 km of land and operate the port after completion.
  • Officials cite lower logistics costs and wider industry gains, including support for the HPCLRajasthan refinery and more than 50,000 projected jobs based on pre-feasibility findings.
