Rajasthan Declares 80 Tehsils in 14 Districts Drought-Affected

The notifications activate six months of relief measures to deliver fodder and water after low dam storage tied to a deficient monsoon.

Overview

  • The state issued two notifications on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 that together list 80 tehsils across 14 districts as drought-affected.
  • Officials classified 69 tehsils as severely affected and 11 as moderately affected with the declarations valid for six months from publication.
  • Jodhpur has the most affected tehsils at 12, followed by Jalore and Barmer with 10 each, and many listings focus on western Rajasthan where shortages are worst.
  • The decisions were based on multiple indicators in line with the Centre’s Drought Management Manual and the Drought Monitoring Portal, using rainfall shortfalls and surface and groundwater data.
  • State water data show a June–Sept shortfall and weaker dam storage — statewide storage fell to about 62% and the Jodhpur zone to roughly 16% — prompting plans for fodder depots and district-level assistance to protect crops, livestock and farmer incomes.
