• The Rajasthan Cabinet on July 13 approved a draft bill that requires all coaching institutes to register with a state oversight portal and offer a helpline for students.
• The approval responds to Vice President Dhankhar’s July 12 address at IIIT Kota, in which he denounced coaching centres as “poaching centres” and “black holes for talent.”
• Dhankhar warned that the commercialization of test prep drains resources from families and stifles curiosity by prioritizing perfect grades and standardized scores.
• He urged coaching institutes to repurpose their infrastructure into skill development hubs in line with the National Education Policy 2020’s focus on holistic learning.
• The Vice President also cautioned that reliance on foreign digital infrastructure undermines sovereignty and called technological leadership the new frontier of patriotism.
