Overview

  • Under Section 163 of the BNSS, the orders bar carrying of arms, gatherings of five or more people and the use of inflammatory slogans or materials without prior permission.
  • Reconstruction work on July 10 for the Jhunjhar Ramchandra Singh Sodha and Jhunjhar Paliwal cenotaphs sparked stone-pelting, vehicle vandalism and injuries to four people, including a police constable.
  • Police intervened with lathi charges and arrested more than two dozen villagers, over 15 of whom were women, in response to the violence.
  • Announcements of visits by figures such as former Union minister Kailash Chaudhary and Congress MLA Harish Chaudhary heightened concerns of renewed unrest and influenced the timing of the prohibitory orders.
  • Officials report that Basanpir remains tense but largely peaceful under the stringent preventive measures.
