Raj Thackeray Alleges 96 Lakh Bogus Voters in Maharashtra, Opposition Plans Nov. 1 Rally

The state poll body rejects tampering claims, saying roll corrections are handled securely under a schedule to finish local elections by January 31, 2026.

Overview

  • MNS chief Raj Thackeray claimed roughly 96 lakh fake or duplicate names were added to electoral rolls statewide and urged a halt to local body polls until lists are cleaned.
  • He cited city-level figures, alleging 8–10 lakh questionable entries in Mumbai and similar tallies in Thane, Pune and Nashik, and directed party workers to verify rolls door to door.
  • Opposition parties announced a joint protest in Mumbai on November 1 seeking removal of about one crore alleged bogus voters, with leaders including Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray slated to lead the rally.
  • The Maharashtra State Election Commission said no political party can alter voter lists and stated that updates and corrections are processed securely, even as opposition leaders press for a Special Summary Revision.
  • NCP MLC Satish Chavan separately alleged 36,000 duplicate names in the Gangapur assembly segment, demanded postponement until corrections and warned of approaching the court.
