Rains Flood Telangana, Lash Kurnool and Nandyal as Godavari Hits Warning Marks

A new low-pressure surge keeps river gauges high, prompting fresh IMD warnings for the next two days.

Overview

  • The IMD issued red and orange alerts for Mahbubabad, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Warangal, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain over the next 48 hours.
  • The Godavari reached first-warning levels at Ramannagudem (15.02 metres) and Perur (16 metres), and remained above the first warning at Bhadrachalam at 44.10 feet with 9.79 lakh cusecs.
  • Floodwaters submerged the Reguvagu bridge and blocked NH-163 near Tekulagudem, and backwater and tank overflows halted road access in five villages of Kurnool district.
  • Standing crops suffered extensive damage, including maize losses on about 1,000 of 18,000 acres in Bayyaram and paddy flattened in multiple Warangal mandals, with additional crop and livestock losses reported across Khammam and Kurnool.
  • One woman died in a house wall collapse in Bhupalpally, and waterlogging slowed SCCL opencast mining as overburden removal stopped and pumping continued.
