Overview

  • The BC Wildfire Service says 144 personnel are mopping up hot spots along the perimeter to prevent flare-ups when conditions turn warmer and drier later this week.
  • Recent rainfall and cooler weather lowered fire behaviour to mainly rank one, opening a long-sought entry point on the northwest flank.
  • The blaze is estimated at about 3,671 hectares, with helicopters and heavy equipment supporting ground crews.
  • Evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect, and Bamfield continues to face power, telecom, and road access disruptions.
  • Environment Canada has a special air quality statement for parts of Vancouver Island, warning that smoke may periodically affect Port Alberni and nearby communities.
