Overview
- Rail services between southern Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur have been partially disrupted for more than a fortnight, officials said on Thursday.
- Continuous heavy rain caused soil subsidence beneath two of the three tracks near New Harangajao in Dima Hasao district, affecting about 300 metres of track and forcing a partial shutdown of the Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section.
- All train movements are being routed on the lone usable Line 3 under strict monitoring, passenger trains are suspended nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., and several services have been cancelled, rescheduled or regulated.
- Northeast Frontier Railway has deployed large repair crews, engineers and heavy machinery but persistent rainfall has hampered work and there is no firm timeline for full restoration.
- Separate flood damage at Simaluguri in Sivasagar has been repaired and is operating with diesel-hauled trains for safety, while long-distance services are being rerouted via Moranhat and North Lakhimpur–Rangapara–North Rangiya to keep supplies moving.
