Rain Bolsters Containment on Colorado’s Western Slope Wildfires

Recent rain has allowed crews to bolster containment lines on multiple Western Slope fires.

  • The Turner Gulch fire has consumed 15,737 acres and is 34% contained, with crews clearing brush north of Colorado 141 to reinforce its perimeter.
  • The Deer Creek fire spans 16,340 acres across Colorado and Utah and is 22% contained after crews fortified its southeastern perimeter.
  • In Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, the South Rim fire covers 4,252 acres and is 21% contained as crews complete mop-up operations along its northwest and southeast edges.
  • The 2,274-acre Sowbelly fire remains stable at 66% containment while firefighters continue mop-up and hotspot monitoring.
  • The Wright Draw fire remains uncontained at 466 acres due to difficult access, and the National Interagency Fire Center reports seven uncontrolled fires still burning in Colorado.
