Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated in Lok Sabha that train blankets are washed at least once a month, with an additional bedsheet provided for use as a quilt cover.
The blankets are designed to be lighter, easier to wash, and provide good insulation for passenger comfort.
Mechanised laundries and specified chemicals are used to ensure hygienic washing, with Whito-meters employed to monitor linen quality.
The lifespan of linen items has been reduced to allow quicker replacement with fresh items meeting improved BIS specifications.
War rooms have been established to address passenger complaints, including those on bedroll hygiene, with improved logistics and eco-friendly packaging implemented for linen management.
