Railways Launch Jammu–Katra Shuttle as Flood Damage Keeps Division Shut

- Northern Railways started a Jammu–Katra shuttle on September 1 with four trains slated to operate through September 15 to support local movement and repair work.
- More than 50 services were canceled on Monday, following days that saw up to 59 cancellations as damaged infrastructure is repaired.
- Seven special trains from Jammu have ferried 5,784 stranded passengers, including three on Sunday carrying over 1,500 to Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.
- The extreme weather also triggered a landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra that killed 34 people, after Jammu recorded 380 mm of rain on August 27.
