Overview
- The Union Ministry of Railways has cleared a second superfast connection between Bengaluru and Mumbai, with the approval announced on September 27.
- Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said expanded capacity at both cities’ stations has now made launching the service feasible.
- Operational specifics, including the start date, timetable, route, frequency, rolling stock and fares, have not yet been disclosed.
- Until now the corridor’s only designated superfast train was the Udyan Express, which takes more than 24 hours and has pushed many travelers to buses and flights.
- BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who pursued the request for years, cited about 26 lakh air travelers last year and said the service is expected to decongest travel and offer a more affordable option, while thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ashwini Vaishnaw and MoS V. Somanna.
