Overview
- Indian Railways approved a Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo service on August 20 linking Budgam with Delhi's Adarsh Nagar, to be operated daily by Northern Railway's Jammu Division.
- The consist includes one seating-cum-luggage rake and eight parcel vans, with an intermediate loading and unloading stop at Bari Brahmana for additional access.
- Officials estimate a roughly 23-hour Budgam–Delhi run, offering a quicker alternative to the highway for time-sensitive shipments.
- The service will launch as a one-year pilot with periodic reviews, and booking registration fees have been lowered to draw business customers and expand rail’s courier share.
- Security will be coordinated with the J&K Police, including parcel scanning at origin and destination, as the first such service in the division focuses on moving apples, saffron, walnuts, pashmina, carpets and handicrafts.
