Rail Traffic Restored After Dumper Falls From Flyover Onto Tracks in Barabanki

A Garib Rath train halted in time beside the impact site, preventing injuries to passengers.

Overview

  • The loaded dumper broke through the Ramnagar–Fatehpur flyover railing near Burhwal around 9:30 pm and plunged about 25 feet onto the BarabankiGonda tracks.
  • The AmritsarSaharsa Garib Rath was passing on the adjacent line, and the loco pilot’s emergency braking averted a collision with no passenger injuries reported.
  • Debris, including a large stone from the bridge, struck coach G2, shattering windows and damaging the roof as frightened passengers felt a strong jolt.
  • Overhead electric lines and poles were damaged, services were halted and later restored after clearance, repairs and a replacement locomotive, with the train resuming around 3:30 am.
  • Multi-agency teams rescued the trapped driver, identified as Pankaj Kumar, after cutting open the crushed cabin; he was hospitalized in critical condition, and the dumper was identified as UP 43 AT 9967 carrying plywood from Sitapur to Bihar.
