Rail Fracture Briefly Disrupts Mumbai Central Line Near Vikhroli

Trains resumed within half an hour under a 30 km/h restriction after slow services were routed over the fast line to keep traffic moving.

Overview

  • The fracture was detected at 7:32 am between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg on the down slow line, officials said.
  • Central Railway teams made the track safe by 7:58 am and imposed a 30 km/h speed limit, according to CPRO Swapnil Nila.
  • Until clearance, slow locals were diverted to the fast line from Matunga to maintain operations.
  • Commuters reported 10–20 minute delays on a corridor that carries over 35 lakh passengers daily across south Mumbai, the eastern suburbs, and parts of Thane and Raigad.
  • In a separate update, Central Railway said it collected Rs 141.27 crore in fines from 23.76 lakh unauthorised and ticketless travel cases between April and October 2025.
