Overview

  • Head coach Pete Carroll said O'Connell will undergo surgery and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
  • O'Connell exited the 20-10 loss to the Cardinals after a second-quarter drive and later returned to the sideline with a splint on his throwing hand.
  • Rookie Cam Miller replaced him and finished 12-of-24 for 124 yards with a 61.5 passer rating.
  • With O'Connell likely headed to injured reserve, the Raiders are down to Geno Smith and Miller at quarterback and are expected to add another passer.
  • O'Connell had an uneven preseason with four turnovers in three games after missing time last year with a broken thumb.
