Overview

  • RAIB’s preliminary analysis shows that the tractor driver phoned the signaller before using the Nordan Farm level crossing.
  • The Transport for Wales train struck the loaded trailer at approximately 80mph, causing the trailer to lodge against the front of the five-carriage train.
  • Six of the 66 passengers were treated for minor injuries at the scene or at Hereford County Hospital and the tractor driver was uninjured.
  • The collision damaged the train’s leading vehicle, several passenger coaches, the trailer, trackside equipment and a second level crossing beyond Nordan Farm.
  • A 32-year-old man from Bromyard was arrested on suspicion of endangering railway safety and released under investigation as RAIB continues its probe.
