Overview

  • On August 13, Pawar filed a pursis in Pune’s special MP/MLA court citing “grave apprehensions” for Gandhi’s safety based on complainant Satyaki Savarkar’s maternal lineage to Nathuram and Gopal Godse
  • The plea highlighted two public warnings by BJP leaders Ravneet Singh Bittu and Tarvinder Singh Marwah as evidence of risk and sought preventive protection from the state
  • Congress spokespeople Supriya Shrinate and Pawan Khera stated Gandhi had not authorized the submission and that it would be withdrawn at the next hearing
  • In a press release, Pawar admitted drafting and filing the application without consulting Gandhi and moved on August 14 to formally withdraw it
  • The underlying criminal defamation trial over Gandhi’s March 2023 London speech remains active on bail and is slated for its next hearing on September 10, 2025
