Rahaman Ali, Last Surviving Member of Muhammad Ali’s Immediate Family, Dies at 82

Overview

  • Rahaman Ali, born Rudolph Arnett Clay on July 18, 1943, died Friday, Aug. 1, at Norton Audubon hospice in Louisville, according to the Muhammad Ali Center.
  • He fought as a heavyweight from 1964 to 1972, compiling a 14–3–1 record before retiring to serve as Muhammad Ali’s chief sparring partner and confidant.
  • He published two memoirs—in 2014 and 2019—and regularly spoke at the Muhammad Ali Center to highlight his brother’s cultural impact and family history.
