Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, has announced his return to competitive tennis at the Brisbane International in January 2024, after a year-long hiatus due to a hip injury.
Nadal, currently ranked 663 in the world, underwent arthroscopic surgery in June 2023 and has been out of competition since his second-round defeat at the Australian Open in January 2023.
The Brisbane International is a key warm-up event for the Australian Open, which is set to begin on January 14, 2024.
Nadal has previously stated that 2024 will likely be his final season on the ATP Tour.
Other players expected to participate in the Australian Open include Katie Boulter, Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, Andy Murray, Jack Draper, and Emma Raducanu, although the final entry list is yet to be confirmed.
