Overview
- Radia publicly introduced the WindRunner for Defense on September 19 at the Air Force Association’s Air, Space & Cyber Conference outside Washington.
- The company claims roughly 12 times the cargo volume of a C-17 and about seven times that of a C-5, with listed payload around 160,000 pounds.
- Radia says the aircraft could transport intact systems such as up to four F-16s or F-35Cs, six CH-47 Chinooks, four CV-22 Ospreys, or as many as 12 Apache helicopters.
- The firm cites operations from roughly 1,800-meter unpaved runways and a maximum-payload range of about 1,200 miles.
- Radia reports a research partnership with U.S. Transportation Command, targets initial operations near 2030, and says it has raised about $130 million with retired USAF Maj. Gen. Kenneth Bibb leading defense efforts.
