Rachel Zegler, starring as Lucy Gray Baird in the upcoming 'Hunger Games' prequel, 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', paid homage to the franchise's original heroine, Katniss Everdeen, by donning a fiery gown at the film's Berlin premiere.
The gown, a black strapless Alexander McQueen piece from the Fall-Winter 2022 collection, featured a dramatic mermaid tail printed with a large-scale blood-red orchid, creating an abstract flame-like design. This design recalled Katniss Everdeen's iconic flaming dress from the second film, 'Catching Fire'.
The prequel film, set 64 years prior to the original series, explores the 10th annual Hunger Games, where Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12, is mentored by a young Coriolanus Snow, the future tyrannical president of Panem.
Director Francis Lawrence has described Zegler's Lucy Gray as the 'anti-Katniss', indicating the character's contrasting traits. Where Katniss was seen as an introverted survivor, Lucy Gray is portrayed as charming, mercurial, and manipulative.
Rachel Zegler's co-star, 'Euphoria' actress Hunter Schafer, also made waves with her couture ensemble from Schiaparelli’s latest collection. The colourful, seemingly paint-stroke constructed midi-dress was seen as fitting for her character, the quirky Capitol stylist Tigris Snow.
