Overview
- The poll of 1,709 UK drivers found 73% of app users had problems in the past year, led by lack of mobile signal (70%), car-park misrecognition (36%) and app crashes (35%).
- Most respondents preferred contactless cards (46%) or cash (33%), with just 30% favouring an app to pay.
- Thirteen percent said they could not work out how to use parking apps, rising to 26% among drivers aged 75 and over.
- More than a third of app users (36%) reported having at least three parking apps installed, and 15% had four or more.
- Some councils have removed pay machines to cut costs, while the government’s platform is live in Manchester, Liverpool and Coventry and a handful of other authorities.
