RAAC Removed From Seven NHS Hospitals as Government Steps Up Safety Programme

Twelve more hospitals are scheduled for clearance by March 2026 under a programme backed by £440 million this year.

Overview

  • Ministers confirmed RAAC has been eradicated at seven hospitals: Kidderminster, Broomfield (Chelmsford), Homerton (London), Scunthorpe General, Churchill (Oxford), Queen Victoria (East Grinstead) and New Cross (Wolverhampton).
  • NHS England says a further 12 sites are due to reach RAAC‑free status by the end of March 2026 as the national safety effort continues.
  • Funding for the hospital work includes £440 million this year, with about £1.3 billion allocated to the NHS RAAC programme since 2021.
  • The Department for Education reports RAAC has been fully removed from 52 schools, taking around 30,000 pupils out of affected classrooms, with 71 more schools in active rebuilding.
  • Public reporting differs on the final NHS target date, with references to both an ambition to eliminate RAAC by 2025 and a broader pledge to complete removal by 2035.
