R. Kelly Faces Lawsuit Over $9.9 Million Owed to Abuse Victims

Six victims who won a $10.3 million judgment against the disgraced singer in 2022 claim they have received less than $500,000 and are seeking the remaining amount from him and associated parties.

The lawsuit, filed on January 31, 2025, names R. Kelly, his former record label Universal Music, and other entities as defendants.
The six plaintiffs include Lizette Martinez, Lisa Van Allen, Kelly Rodgers, Faith Rodgers, Roderick Gartrell, and Gem Pratts, all of whom appeared in the 'Surviving R. Kelly' docuseries.
The judgment from 2022 awarded over $5.1 million in compensatory damages and $4.5 million in punitive damages, along with accruing daily interest.
The plaintiffs argue that Universal Music is still obligated to collect and remit royalties from Kelly's music, which they claim should go toward satisfying the judgment.
R. Kelly, currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for multiple convictions, has appealed the judgment, with his legal team contesting its validity.
