‘R-Evolution’ Sculpture Unveiled at San Francisco’s Embarcadero Plaza
The 45-foot-tall steel artwork celebrating female empowerment will remain on display for six months, featuring interactive elements and nightly illumination.
- The sculpture, created by artist Marco Cochrane, debuted at Burning Man in 2015 and has since been exhibited in cities like Miami, Las Vegas, and Petaluma.
- Originally planned for Union Square, the installation was relocated to Embarcadero Plaza due to concerns about potential damage to Union Square’s tiles from its 32,000-pound weight.
- The official unveiling event on April 10 included live music, a DJ, food, drinks, and a liquid light show organized by public arts group Illuminate.
- The artwork incorporates dynamic features, such as a daily 'breathing' effect and internal illumination at night, enhancing its interactive appeal.
- The installation was made possible through private sponsorships, including funding from the Sijbrandij Foundation, and coordination with local agencies like Building 180 and the SF Recreation and Parks Department.
