Overview

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved R A Chandra Sekhar’s appointment as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat, effective on or after August 1, 2025.
  • Sekhar, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, currently serves as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.
  • As Security Secretary, he will head the Special Protection Group that safeguards the Prime Minister and his immediate family.
  • The committee also sanctioned the elevation of 38 IPS officers to the rank of Additional Director General of Police at the central level.
  • Sunil Kumar Jha, Special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force, has been appointed Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards until his superannuation on January 31, 2027.
