Quintenz Accuses Winklevoss Twins of Lobbying Trump to Pause CFTC Nomination

Quintenz’s confirmation remains on hold after a White House-requested pause.

Overview

  • On Sept. 10, Brian Quintenz publicly posted screenshots of what he said were July 24 Signal messages with Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss pressing him about Gemini’s inspector general complaint and calling for “ending lawfare.”
  • He said he declined to promise specific remedies, committing only to a fair review if confirmed, and alleged the twins then asked President Trump to have his nomination paused.
  • Days later, the White House asked the Senate Agriculture Committee to pull a planned vote on his confirmation, and no follow-up date has been scheduled.
  • Spokespeople for the Winklevosses, the White House and the CFTC did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and some outlets reported they could not independently verify the texts’ authenticity.
  • The dispute builds on a 2022 CFTC case that Gemini settled in January for $5 million without admitting wrongdoing and comes as the company targets a roughly $3 billion Nasdaq debut on Sept. 12.
