Quincy Promes Extradited to Netherlands to Serve Prison Terms

He will begin seven and a half years behind bars following convictions for a 2020 cocaine smuggling operation alongside a separate stabbing charge.

Overview

  • The Amsterdam District Court ruled in 2024 that Promes was involved in importing and exporting hundreds of kilograms of cocaine in 2020 and sentenced him in absentia to six years.
  • In 2023 he received an 18-month term for stabbing his cousin in the leg during a 2020 altercation.
  • He was arrested in Dubai in 2024 while playing for second-tier United FC and has now been transferred to Dutch custody.
  • Both the drug trafficking and stabbing convictions are currently under appeal in the Netherlands.
  • The 33-year-old forward, who earned 50 caps and scored seven goals for the national team, last played for Spartak Moscow before relocating to Dubai.
