Quincy Promes Arrested in Dubai for Cocaine Trafficking
The former Dutch international faces extradition to the Netherlands following his arrest at their request.
- Quincy Promes, a former Dutch international and Spartak Moscow forward, has been arrested in Dubai at the request of the Netherlands for cocaine trafficking.
- Promes was sentenced in absentia last month to six years in prison by an Amsterdam court for his involvement in cocaine smuggling.
- The Netherlands will seek Promes' extradition following his arrest through a Red Notice, a global request for law enforcement to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition.
- In addition to the drug trafficking case, Promes was also sentenced in absentia last year to 18 months in jail for assault, related to a 2020 incident where he stabbed a cousin in the knee.
- Promes has denied all charges and has filed an appeal in both cases.
