Overview
- Mayors of Querétaro, Corregidora, El Marqués, Huimilpan and San Juan del Río signed an agreement to adapt local regulations to the governor’s ban on music that alludes to violence or crime at public events.
- El Marqués became the first municipality to formally reform its Public Shows and Events regulation, prohibiting corrido subgenres that promote violence or apología del delito with penalties that include event suspension and fines of 500 to 1,000 UMAs (up to 113,140 pesos).
- Event organizers in El Marqués must notify the Municipal Secretary of Government of a show’s content, repertoire and format, certifying it does not constitute apología del delito.
- The capital’s mayor, Felipe Fernando Macías, proposed a reform that would set fines of up to 10,000 UMAs (about 1.13 million pesos) and allow definitive suspensions for venues that reproduce prohibited content.
- Local reporting says Corregidora has denied permits to two concerts under the new standard, and State Secretary Eric Gudiño plans to bring the remaining 13 municipalities into alignment.
