Queensland Reports 10.8% Victim Decline Under 'Adult Crime, Adult Time' Laws

Police figures released Tuesday show almost 3,000 children have been charged under measures that apply adult penalties for serious crimes.

Overview

  • The Queensland Police Service reported a 10.8% fall in victims across nine tracked offence categories for the first nine months of 2025 versus a year earlier.
  • Recorded declines included murder down 38.2%, robbery down 12.6%, unlawful entry down 21.2% and unlawful use of a motor vehicle down 15.6%.
  • Other categories rose, with sexual offences up 6.5% and grievous bodily harm up by almost 15% over the same period.
  • Since December 2024, 2,986 juveniles have been charged with 14,060 offences under the 'adult crime, adult time' framework that mandates adult-level sentences for serious youth offences.
  • Premier David Crisafulli hailed the figures, restated his pledge to stand down if victims do not fall, and launched a drive to recruit 1,600 officers, as a July QPS review had warned of watchhouse overcrowding and delays.
