- Two men driving near the Maheno shipwreck around 6:30 a.m. found the 19-year-old unresponsive with a pack of about 10–12 dingoes nearby.

- The victim, a Canadian national, had lived on K’gari for about six weeks and worked at a backpackers’ hostel after arriving with a friend.
- A crime scene is in place, the body has been moved to the mainland, and an autopsy is scheduled as officers seek information and dashcam footage.
- Queensland Police are working with island rangers and environment authorities, and the RCMP has been notified to assist in contacting the family.
