Queensland Issues Measles Alert After Case Linked to Bali Flight

Health authorities are urging anyone at the listed sites to monitor for symptoms and call ahead before seeking care.

Overview

  • West Moreton Health confirmed a measles case in a Boonah resident who flew Jetstar flight JQ60 from Bali to Brisbane on 19 August, landing at 5:40am.
  • Potential exposure windows were Brisbane Airport from 5:40am to 7:10am on 19 August, Yamanto Aldi from 5:50pm to 6:40pm the same day, Footes Pharmacy in Boonah from 11:30am to 12:00pm on 23 August, and Boonah Hospital emergency department from 6:20pm to 11:20pm on 23 August.
  • Officials say those locations no longer pose ongoing risk, but people who were there at the specified times should watch for fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, and a blotchy rash that can appear days later.
  • People with symptoms are advised to stay home, avoid public places, call ahead before visiting a clinic or hospital, and access testing through GPs or some hospitals.
  • Public health physician Dr Catherine Quagliotto warned measles is highly contagious and said vaccination offers the best protection, with unvaccinated people born after 1965 and immunocompromised individuals at higher risk.
