Overview

  • Brett David Eddy, 42, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court to the manslaughter of Natasha Raven and to related offences including dangerous driving while intoxicated, failure to render assistance, disqualified driving and performing a burnout.
  • Justice Peter Davis imposed a 14-year prison term with 453 days declared as time served, set parole eligibility for November 2033 and ordered an indefinite driving disqualification.
  • Prosecutors said Eddy was blind drunk, reached 160–180 km/h through suburban streets, performed burnouts and had a 12-year-old passenger record video of the driving.
  • Eddy’s vehicle mounted the road shoulder at 11:47pm in Urangan, struck Raven near her home, and he fled the scene before later lying to police.
  • Victim impact statements described severe ongoing harm to Raven’s family, particularly her teenage son, and Eddy apologized via video link saying he would never forgive himself.
