Queens Man Killed Trying to Stop Car Thieves

Family of Mauro Chimbay, thrown from thieves' car during confrontation, calls for justice as NYPD continues search for suspects.

Mauro Chimbay, a 43-year-old Queens resident, was killed after being thrown from the hood of a car while trying to stop thieves who broke into his SUV.
Chimbay was playing volleyball in a park when he was alerted that thieves were ransacking his Toyota Highlander.
He confronted the thieves, who fled in a white BMW. Chimbay clung to the hood of the BMW and was thrown off, suffering fatal head injuries.
The thieves remain at large, and the NYPD is conducting an ongoing investigation.
Chimbay's wife, Marjorie Monserrate, and his brother, Francisco Chimbay, have publicly called for justice.
