Overview
- Yehia Amin, a 28-year-old man from Queens, has been indicted on multiple hate crime charges for allegedly stalking and assaulting an Israeli tourist in Times Square.
- The incident occurred on October 18, when Amin allegedly followed the victim and his friends, who were all wearing yarmulkes, and played what he described as 'Hamas music' on a Bluetooth speaker.
- Amin is accused of making antisemitic and anti-Israel comments, including 'Hamas should kill more of you' and 'All Jews should die', before punching the victim in the back of the head.
- The victim and his friends, along with a police officer, chased Amin and he was subsequently arrested. Even while under arrest, Amin allegedly continued to make antisemitic remarks.
- The indictment comes amid a troubling rise in antisemitic incidents in the wake of Hamas' sudden attack on Israel and Israel's retaliatory assault on the Gaza Strip.
