Overview
- Queen Camilla visited the Spellow Community Hub and Library on Friday, September 4, 2026, unveiled a commemorative plaque, added books to the shelves and joined children’s activities including story reading, colouring and a chess lesson.
- The building was set alight during violent disorder in summer 2024 and was later repaired and restocked through local and national support.
- A GoFundMe started by Alex McCormick that aimed to raise £500 ultimately collected £250,000 to help pay for repairs and new stock for the hub.
- Authors and public figures donated books and support, and the Queen had already given nearly 70 books in 2024 before bringing additional titles during her visit.
- Local council staff, emergency services and volunteers led the restoration and programming that has reopened the hub as a neighbourhood centre for reading, youth activities and community events and bolstered local morale and children’s access to books.
