Overview
- Quebec’s durability and right-to-repair provisions came into force on Oct. 5, 2025, moving requirements from legislation to day-to-day obligations for sellers and manufacturers.
- Retailers are now barred from selling goods whose normal operating life has been deliberately limited.
- At the point of purchase, consumers must be told whether spare parts and the information needed to repair or maintain products are available.
- Spare parts and repair services must be offered at reasonable prices, with components designed to be installed using commonly available tools and with consumers able to choose their repairer.
- Merchants and manufacturers that fail to comply face fines, and federal departments previously consulted on similar measures as other provinces consider adopting them.
