Quebec provincial police are investigating the death of a five-year-old boy found in a home about 55 kilometres southwest of Montreal.
Emergency services were called to the residence around 3 a.m., where the boy was found unresponsive and later declared dead.
A 29-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder and was arraigned in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.
Two other individuals in the home were taken to hospital and are expected to meet with investigators once their health allows.
Crime scene technicians are collecting evidence, and police are seeking information from anyone who saw the child in the past 24 hours.
