Quartararo Sets 0.5-Second Threshold to Race Yamaha’s New V4 This Year

Austrian struggles heightened calls for earlier access ahead of a planned Misano tryout.

Overview

  • Fabio Quartararo says he would race the V4 in 2025 if it laps within half a second of his current M1 pace.
  • He criticized Yamaha’s cautious rollout, saying he believes the team is afraid the bike is not ready for him to try.
  • All four Yamahas finished at the back in Austria, and Quartararo said the riders want an explanation from engineers.
  • Only test riders Augusto Fernandez and Andrea Dovizioso have ridden the V4 so far, with a first public run for race riders set for the post‑San Marino Monday test at Misano.
  • Yamaha is not bound by an engine freeze and could race the V4 whenever it chooses, though Alex Rins said last month it was about two seconds slower than the M1 at that stage.
