QS Sustainability 2026: India Places 103 Universities, None in Global Top 200

A larger, more competitive field left India’s best outside the top 200 according to QS.

Overview

  • IIT Delhi leads nationally at rank 205 after falling from 171 in the 2025 edition.
  • Lund University takes the global No. 1 spot, ahead of the University of Toronto and UCL, in a list nearing 2,000 institutions.
  • India records the fourth-highest participation with 103 universities, including 26 debutants; 32 improved, 15 held steady, and 30 declined.
  • Indicator gains include IIT Delhi (93rd) and IIT Kharagpur (96th) for Employability & Outcomes, IIT Bombay 100th for Environmental Impact, and the University of Delhi 94th for Knowledge Exchange.
  • QS CEO Jessica Turner highlighted strengths in knowledge exchange and environmental sustainability and urged continued support to build green skills and research capacity.
