QCI Unveils Overhaul of India’s Quality System With QR 'Q Mark' and Faster Certification

The package is designed to build public trust through verification measures that also accelerate market access for Indian producers.

Overview

  • Announced on December 24 by the Commerce Ministry, the reforms span healthcare, laboratories, MSMEs and manufacturing in a push aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047.
  • A QR-coded 'Q Mark' is planned to let citizens verify hospitals, labs and MSMEs to curb fake certificates, alongside a new Quality Setu ticketing system for time-bound grievance resolution.
  • A single paperless accreditation platform will replace multiple portals to streamline applications and increase transparency across the quality ecosystem.
  • For industry and MSMEs, QCI will mentor Tier-2 and Tier-3 suppliers toward ZED and Lean certification, cut fees to improve access, launch a shop-floor best practices playbook, and train 100,000 MSMEs and self-help groups under ODOP in 2026.
  • Healthcare measures include NABH’s MITRA mentor program and relaxed eligibility allowing hospitals with 20% occupancy to apply, while NABCB will introduce accredited certification for indigenous products, a Quality Passport, and fast-track routes for areas like drones and cybersecurity.
