Overview

  • The NSW Supreme Court granted Qantas an injunction on July 17 prohibiting any access, viewing, publication or transmission of the compromised records.
  • Qantas lodged a statement of claim against “persons unknown” to obtain legal authority to force removal of the data from public and dark-web sources.
  • Justice Francois Kunc, whose own details were among those breached, ruled that his involvement did not disqualify him from overseeing the case.
  • The airline confirmed no financial details or login credentials were taken and has established a 24/7 helpline to advise affected customers on identity protection.
  • Qantas is working closely with the National Cyber Security Co-ordinator, the Australian Cyber Security Centre and the Australian Federal Police on the ongoing investigation.
