Qantas Overhauls Frequent Flyer Scheme With Point Devaluation and Higher Fees

The carrier attributes the overhaul to funding long-term investments which will expand reward seat availability by up to one million seats

Overview

  • Qantas has raised points requirements for reward seats by 15–20% in business and first class and by 5% for domestic economy effective August 5
  • Carrier surcharges and booking fees on Classic Rewards have increased by more than A$175 on key routes, including SydneyLondon business class
  • Qantas will add up to one million extra reward seats across its domestic and international network through partnerships with Hawaiian Airlines, Finnair, Air France, KLM and Iberia Jetstar’s reward thresholds on select AustraliaNew Zealand routes have been cut by about 10%, lowering the SydneyGold Coast rate to 5,700 points
  • A July cyber-attack on a third-party call centre platform exposed records for six million customers, including names, contact details and frequent flyer numbers, and remains under investigation
