Overview
- The additional purchase lifts the A321XLR commitment to 48 aircraft across Qantas and Jetstar.
- Qantas expects its first two XLRs to begin commercial service in mid-September on Sydney–Melbourne and Sydney–Perth, becoming the type’s first operator in Asia-Pacific.
- Sixteen of the newly ordered jets will feature lie-flat business seats and seat-back entertainment from 2028 for longer domestic and regional international missions.
- The aircraft’s 8,700 km range will speed retirement of Boeing 737-800s and support potential new nonstop routes such as Perth–India and Adelaide–Singapore.
- Jetstar’s XLRs are due from 2027 in a two-class configuration, and Qantas targets seven XLRs in service by mid-2026 as part of a 214-aircraft renewal program.
