PWD Takes Over Signature Bridge Upkeep, Issues ₹1.5 Crore Tender for Armed Security

The move responds to repeated thefts, vandalism, attacks on guards at the river crossing.

Overview

  • PWD has invited bids to fund watch-and-ward services at the bridge under an annual maintenance allocation of about ₹1.5 crore.
  • Deployment will cover three eight-hour shifts with one armed guard primarily at night and unarmed guards by day.
  • Eligibility terms in the tender set an upper age of 55 for guards and require proficiency in English and Hindi.
  • DTTDC requested the handover after budget shortfalls, and PWD is now assuming responsibility for maintenance.
  • Officials expect to finalise bids around January 7 as they cite recurring thefts, stunts, poor sanitation and lift breakdowns.
