Overview

  • At its plenary, the PVEM ratified its alliance with Morena and PT and voiced support for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s electoral overhaul, calling for an open, consensus-driven debate.
  • Senate leader Manuel Velasco proposed halving public funding for parties on the condition that resources be distributed equally among all forces and urged broad participation from legislators, academics and civil society.
  • PVEM and PT have signaled resistance to eliminating proportional representation seats, and experts note Morena cannot secure a qualified majority for constitutional changes without their backing.
  • Following Senator Néstor Camarillo’s exit from the PRI, the PRI lost its vice presidency on the Senate’s board; leaders said the post corresponds to the PVEM, pending the formal vote.
  • In the lower house, PVEM floor leader Carlos Puente confirmed the party will respect the agreed rotation so the PAN presides the Chamber this year, with the Greens set for the third year.
